POKOTABI / Kitchen Frypan
キッチン フライパン
At Kitchen Frypan, Aizu sauce katsudon comes with a demi-glace-based sauce and a choice of pork loin, chicken and other cuts. The menu also features a version carrying on the flavour of Ito Shokudo, along with set meals and corn soup.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
At Kitchen Frypan, there is more to choosing an Aizu sauce katsudon than picking a type or size of meat: diners can also opt for a flavour passed down from another restaurant. The standard pork-loin version uses a demi-glace-based sauce, while chicken and chicken tenderloin are also available. The menu describes the chicken cutlet as roughly twice the size of the pork-loin one, making it an option for a heartier meal.
Visitors describe a cutlet that nearly covers the bowl, layered over cabbage and rice, with the sauce’s acidity and intensity shaping each bite. Some have been surprised by the portion size. One diner who ordered the extra-large pork loin said they were glad they had not also ordered a large serving of rice. The extra-large cutlet is listed as roughly twice the size of the standard pork loin, so the regular size may be a sensible place to start.
Another signature option carries on the flavour of Ito Shokudo, which closed in 2019. Diners who tried both versions found this sauce comparatively light, though some preferred the extra-large pork loin. Sharing a regular pork-loin bowl and the Ito Shokudo-style version between two people offers a chance to compare the sauces.
There are also specific reports of chicken sauce katsudon served with corn soup at lunchtime. In one account, the cutlet sat on shredded cabbage and came with two kinds of pickles. Another visitor ordered corn soup while waiting for a katsudon and noted that it included croutons. It is an easy pairing for anyone who would like to start with soup before making the rice bowl the centre of the meal.
For something other than fried food, the menu includes set meals such as ginger pork, hamburger steak and crab croquettes. One diner who ordered the ginger-pork set meal also mentioned macaroni salad and house-made dressing, a useful alternative for those looking for Western-style food beyond katsudon. The menu notes that set meals may take some time to prepare.
The listed hours are 12:00 to 14:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays; the restaurant is closed on Wednesdays and Sundays. If you are planning a visit during the limited lunch hours, you can choose between Aizu sauce katsudon and a set meal featuring another Western-style dish.
